Many of you kept asking if and when we would support this commonly used feature. From technical point of view it was equally challenging to implement. However challenging it was, we were able to complete this great feature.

SpreadsheetLIVE Conditional Formatting

In this version we will provide support for most commonly used conditional formatting types and conditions. In future releases, we will continue improving our support and soon enough cover all types found in standard desktop spreadsheet packages.

Before going into the details of SheetSDK, lets create a simple “Hello” script.

• Login To SpreadsheetLive
• Create an empty workbook
• Click to Script menu and then Script Editor

Probably, you will see the lines below:

Give a name for your application, enter some details about it and click to “Try Script”.. You’ll get a simple “Hello” message. Yes, It was easy!

SpreadsheetLive scripting system brings the power of “nature” javascript with SheetSDK. You can access listen and integrate with every part of the workbook. Simply come up with your idea and put all parts together with SheetDSK. We have created SheetSDK for users familiar with the object oriented code environment. Every script application you created runs under its own application hood. SheetSDK manages applications and their UI garbages. So, it is very simple to manage browser garbage through the SheetSDK. There are still some rules to create more efficient script applications but the management pools of SheetSDK provides a good way to create them.

Lets create our first window based script. Change the codes above with the codes below.

A SpreadsheetLIVE permalink is a unique internet address (URI) that references your spreadsheet document and can be emailed to other users to provide access to the document.

SpreadsheetLIVE permalinks allows you to share and collaborate on a SpreadsheetLIVE document with anyone, even non SpreadsheetLIVE users.

Permalinks are an advanced feature of SpreadsheetLIVE and are not available to standard subscription holders.

How to create a permalink

Creating a permalink is a very simple process.

The first step is to open your document in SpreadsheetLIVE.

Once your document is opened you will need to click the Permalink Wizard icon located towards the right-hand side of the SpreadsheetLIVE toolbar. If you are having trouble finding the Permalink Wizard icon, remember that if you hover the mouse cursor over an icon a tool tip will pop up letting you know the function of the icon.

The Permalink Wizard (shown below) allows you to select an expiry date for the permalink, a note that you can optionally choose to send to users as well as a list of email addresses that you would like to send the note to. Finally you can decide whether you would like to grant permalink users Read or Write permissions to the document. Permalink collaborators will be able to receive real-time updates regardless of their access level but they will require Write permissions if you would like them to be able to add to or modify the document.

Once you have made your selection, make sure that you select the Create Permalink button. After clicking Create Permalink, a new dialog box will open that contains the actual permalink that you can send to any people of your choice to provide them access to the SpreadsheetLIVE document.

If you wish to make use of the collaboration feature of SpreadsheetLIVE you will need to ensure that your user account is publicly accessible.

In order to do this you will need to select the MyAccount link from your SpreadsheetLIVE home page.

Under the Change Account Details section you will see a checkbox that says I want my profile to be public. Ensure that you have placed a check beside this option and then click Save Account Details.

At this point your SpreadsheetLIVE user account will be publicly accessible and other users will be able to invite you to collaborate on documents with them.

Collaboration is one of the truly great features of SpreadsheetLIVE. Collaboration allows you, and any number of colleagues, family or friends, to work interactively and in real-time on the same spreadsheet document regardless of your geographical location.

Here at Pagos, we use the collaboration feature extensively for meetings and brainstorming sessions but the truth is that the uses of the collaboration feature are limited only by your imagination.

Collaboration is a feature that we value highly and you can be assured that this feature will be constantly updated, enhanced and improved upon.

Getting started with collaboration is easy.

The first step is to sign up for a SpreadsheetLIVE account if you have not already done so.

After logging into SpreadsheetLIVE, you need to select a document (of which you are the owner) from your workspace. If you do not currently have any documents in your workspace you can create a new spreadsheet document or upload an existing spreadsheet document.

Once you have decided upon the spreadsheet document that you would like to collaborate on, you need to decide who you would like to collaborate with.

There are 3 choices:

• Collaborate with specific, internal users of SpreadsheetLIVE
• Collaborate with any user of SpreadsheetLIVE
• Collaborate with external, non SpreadsheetLIVE users

Let’s look at these 3 choices in more detail:

Collaborate with specific, internal users of SpreadsheetLIVE

In order to collaborate with specific, internal users of SpreadsheetLIVE, you must know the specific user’s SpreadsheetLIVE log on name and the user must have updated their SpreadsheetLIVE status to publicly accessible.

In order to grant users collaboration permissions to your document you need to select the spreadsheet document from your workspace and then use the right-mouse click button to access the context menu and select Manage Sharing > Share (as shown in the image below).

In the Manage Sharing dialog box you will need to enter the users SpreadsheetLIVE log on name (or at least part of it) and then click the Search Users button. A list of users matching the search criteria will appear, select the user or users that you wish to collaborate with and use the arrow (> or >>) buttons to grant the users access to the workbook. Once you have granted users access to the workbook you can choose whether you would like the collaborators to have Read or Write access to the workbook. Collaborators will be able to recieve real-time updates regardless of their access level but they will require Write permissions if you would like them to be able to add to or modify the document. Once you have made the appropriate selections remember to click Save Sharing to apply the changes!

At this point your document is shared (you will notice that the icon beside the document has changed to indicate that the document is being shared). The collaborators can now find your shared document through the Workbook Menu > Shared link on their workspace page.

Collaborate with any user of SpreadsheetLIVE

It is very easy to enable public collaboration on a SpreadsheetLIVE document but please remember that a publicly enabled document can be viewed by an user of SpreadsheetLIVE so make sure that the spreadsheet does not contain any sensitive information that you would not want other people to see.

To enable public collaboration on a SpreadsheetLIVE document you need to select the spreadsheet document from your workspace and then use the right-mouse click button to access the content menu (as shown in the image below) and select Manage Sharing > Make Public.

On the Publicize Workbook dialog you can decide whether you would like to grant public users Read or Write permissions to the document. Public collaborators will be able to receive real-time updates regardless of their access level but they will require Write permissions if you would like them to be able to add to or modify the document. Once you have made the appropriate selections remember to click Yes to apply the changes!

At this point your document is publicly accessible (you will notice that the icon beside the document has changed to indicate that the document is now a public document). SpreadsheetLIVE user can now find your public document through the Workbook Menu > Public link on their workspace page.

Collaborate with external, non SpreadsheetLIVE users

SpreadsheetLIVE allows you to share and collaborate on a SpreadsheetLIVE document with anyone (even non SpreadsheetLIVE users) through a permalink. A permalink is a unique internet address that references your spreadsheet document and can be emailed to other users to provide access to the document.

Permalinks are an advanced feature of SSLive and are not available to standard subscription holders.

SpreadsheetLIVE includes a script editor for writing or modifying the code associated with a script.

Scripting support offers developers a unique way to integrate their own applications with SpreadsheetLIVE.

We will be posting more examples on how scripting can be used in the future.
